Single guys tend to be out more often and later. They are a bit more of a daredevil when it comes to driving. This is all statistically speaking. Married men are more stable when it comes to insurance statistics.

Regardless your license status, you will need insurance on the bike, if it is being used on the road. Some insurance carriers will become more restrictive depending on your license status. But, in reality any motor vehicle (including a motorcycle) must be properly registered and insured to be driven.

Unfortunately, Geico did not really tell you the complete background on their insurance rates which are primarily geared to how old is the motorcyclist and the number of years that the motorcyclist has been driving without any significant accidents or insurance claims. If you are at least 26 years of age and have been licensed to to drive a motorcycle since 18 years of age, your initial insurance coverage will be substantially quite lower than someone under 26 years of age who is just starting out driving a motorcycle. For example, I currently drive a sports bike, a BMW R850R and a early model Honda Elite 150CC scooter and the total coverage for both bikes for only public liability is $165.00 per year. And the insurer is not Geico but McGraw Insurance Services (800-303-5000).

I can only conclude that motorcycle insurance is still truly a bargain priced item which becomes more affordable once a motorcyclist becomes of age, that is, over 26 years of age.

You need to have insurance before you take possession of a motor vehicle, let alone drive it on any kind of permit or license.

This is because bad stuff can happen at any time.

Most bad stuff happens in an accident, but it can get stolen, damaged, cause damage. If you own it, you are responsible, unless you got insurance first.

If police stop you for any random reason, they will probably need to see your
* license is correct for type of vehicle you driving (you do know that a different license needed for motorcyce, than for car?)
* ownership … you have right to be driving this vehicle
* licence plates properly registered to ownership
* wearing suitable safety gear like helmet
* proof of insurance

If any of this evidence is missing, the presumption is that you are driving illegally.

hell u could buy a cage with no lic or insurance…but if u plan on drivin it off the lot, u would need it. is no different for bikes. if the dealer in question is like the hd dealer here, u wont even get the keys to ride it off the lot if u dont show proof of insurance. ohio is a real bitc-h about insurance.

I don't know why? but they are! weird huh. My buddy is 36 and has been riding for a bunch of years and got his for like $110 a year! THAT'S CRAZY! He keeps telling me to switch I'm sure I will soon.
I assume because they are such a big Company that it makes it easier to give better quotes. kinda like, why sell a few policy's a day for $300 when they can 20 policy's for half that and still make big bucks! I don't know just my thought on it anyways.

I would get a fair amount of coverage, regardless of anything.. just because it's better to be safe than sorry.
And yes, hit and run has gone up quite a lot.
