Help answer the question about affordable health insurance
How do I get affordable health insurance for my son?I was in between jobs last year so I had to put my son on medicaid. As soon as I found a job I let them know but they kicked him off of it anyways. The problem I am having is that my insurance at work don't kick in until November and he has to have insurance by then for doctors appointments, etc. I tried to get MC+ for kids but they make it almost impossible to get. I just was wondering if anyone knew of a place where I can get affordable health insurance for my son?

We need LESS government control over health care, not more.
Whenever the government runs things, there are shortages and BAD, RUDE service. In this case, there will be rationing. They’ve already warned old people to get ready to die; we won’t be doing those life-saving procedures on you if you’re past your tax-paying years.
If the socialists have their way, we’ll have a single payer system and it will be ILLEGAL to try to pay someone to save your life.
Horrible and unconstitutional.

Edie – how dare you talk about what nurses go through. YOU’RE NOT A NURSE. The “paperwork problem” you spoke of in your previous interview is a direct result of government meddling. If the Government takes over completely – it will be WORSE, not better. Don’t talk about that which does not effect you. You have no clue. Go experience the health system in Britain or Canada – go live with a while, and then maybe you’d have a little credibility. Unbelievable.

Great! I’ve been wondering what Edie Falco had to say about health care reform.
People: do you want DMV style health care? Think….

You may want to try a website that compares multiple companies at once to get you the best price. I am paying less than ½ after I did.

I beg to differ with Heather. The pre-existing clause in the portability act only refers to group policies. Individual policies will usually look back 5 – 10 years for surgeries and heart conditions. They can choose to decline you, rider the condtion for a period of time (1 year to permanent) or increase the premium, as you are finding out.
You can try increasing the deductible. A higher deductible can result in a much lower premium. Your only other options would be Medicaid or a medical discount plan. Be very wary of these plans. They are not regulated by the Department of Insurance nor do the people that sell them need to be licensed. This means you have little recourse when you have problems with the plan. If you are tempted by the low price and claims of “save up to 80%” be aware that very few doctors actually take these cards. It does you little good if you have to drive 4 hours to find a doctor that will accept the card. Montana couldn’t find any doctors in the whole state that actually took the card and only one dentist who was on probation for unlawful activities so they banned the sale of the card and fined the company. See this link http://www.insurancejournal.com/news/west/2006/11/22/74554.htm for more information. Many other states are starting to ban these cards as well.
Before signing up with any discount plan get a list of doctors. If they won’t give you a list consider it to be a scam. Call the doctors on the list to make sure they’re still taking the card (many don’t even know that they’re listed as a provider) and that they’re accepting new patients.

Well, Fockersnextdoor, your health records are already open to your insurance company who is much more interested in profit than in your well-being, I assure you.
The other day I read about a young woman in her 20s who died of untreated gall stones. She had a job and was insured but her co-pay for the necessary surgery was $5,000. Can you believe that? $5,000. She could not get anyone to do the surgery because she didn’t have the co-pay. And she died.
Justify that. I dare you.

I have Anthem BC/BS and it is about $120 a month for me (single coverage, age 46). You will have to go through an underwriter first because of the BP but if it is controlled, hopefully it won't be a problem. You will find the cheapest polices have higher deductibles- mine is $5000.
A high-deductible policy also makes you eligible to open a health savings account.
Your best bet is to find employment with employer-sponsored health insurance, but you don't want to be without in the meantime. If you don't have job skills now maybe you could retrain in a health care field.

An MSA is probably not going to help you with no steady income. I would recommend checking out various companies on a site like the one below. It will allow you to comparison shop. You will be rather surprised how much costs will vary. Try this site

A lot will depend on where you live because different states have different programs for children.
As long as your son is under the age of 18 then most states and even some counties will have some form of program that you will be able to look into.
If you make too much money to qualify for a government program then your best bet is probably individual health insurance for your son. As long as he is relatively healthy then it should be no problem at all finding a cheap plan.
Be sure that you shop around and compare quotes from at least 3-5 different reputable companies. Enlist the help of an independent health insurance agent or broker so that they can help you comparison shop.Try this site

Health care could be as easy as contacting your state assistance employees. For meds you should contact the companys who make that specific drug. They have discounted if not free for those who apply. Councelling services – call around and explain your situation they might discount your rate if not give free sessions. They have a percentage of cases they need to do for free.
Contact a lawyer due to being rejected disability. You need some legal help to force some issues.

This will not be “Socialized medicine.” Quit listening to propaganda. Stop being so greedy and think about the country for once in your life. If you don’t want this, then here’s a great and wonderful solution: LEAVE! Leave the U.S., go down to central america where your wonderful system of Capitalism has been running rampant for decades. Live down there, and see how it goes. Then we can get Universal health care passed and be done with it.

Also, Fockersnextdoor, don’t you think the government can get your health records if it really wants them? Under Bush, our phone records were handed over by AT&T – in spite of the fact that this was illegal. Then they were given immunity.
Do you plan to use Medicare when you retire? Well, then your medical records are “open to the government”. You’ll HAVE to use Medicare unless you want to foot ALL of the bill yourself because you can only get supplemental insurance after 65.
