Dental Care Without Insurance

Dental Care Without Insurance

The need for Dental insurance is very crucial as people are becoming aware of the fact that the costs involved in taking care of the teeth and gums are very expensive. In order to be healthy and to take good care of the teeth, dental insurance can be very reasonable and levelheaded precaution. Dental insurance normally covers the examination of the teeth, checkups and dental fillings. Dental insurance is as important as the life insurance coverage plans, home insurance and car insurance since every one needs good teeth for speaking and eating. Doctors are now emphasizing the need to keep the mouth and teeth clean and healthy as they may lead to heart disease.

Types of dental insurance:

There are several kinds of dental care plans and dental insurance that can be availed as a private dental insurance or individual dental insurance plan or offered as benefit to the employee by the employer called the corporate dental insurance. Some may only provide coverage to dental cleanings and examinations while some provide insurance coverage to dental procedures too. Some dental insurance policies can also be availed as family dental insurance plans. The costs of these dental insurance policies are low, yet effective and vital to all.

Capitation dental insurance type involves paying the dentist a fixed amount for each patient registered. In turn the dentist will give a free routine dental care, but then the clients need to pay a certain amount for every visit and the coverage of non-routine work will depend on the kind of dental insurance policy taken by them. This type of dental insurance coverage is quite affordable and can be paid as monthly premium.

If a person opts for an indemnity dental insurance plan, he is free to select his own dentist which means that the cost of any dental work carried out will be reimbursed by the insurance provider. Normally 50 percent – 80 percent of the cost will be covered by the dental insurance policy and the remaining amount has to be paid by the policyholder. The main disadvantage of the indemnity dental insurance policy is that they only cover certain procedures that have been mentioned in the policy document and deductibles for non-preventive work can be very high.

Greater extent of reduced rates on dental care is possible through the preferred provider dental insurance policy that will provide dental care from the participating dentists. If the policyholder uses the service of non-participating dentists the benefits can be reduced to a greater extent. The employers provide corporate dental insurance policies to their employees as additional benefit. The extent of the coverage depends on the policy and can differ from employer to employer. There is also an annual limit for claiming the amount for such insurance policies.

Private dental insurance policies allow the policy holder to choose the dentist from whom he would like to get treated, also the premium of such policies do not rise with aging. Before utilizing the dental services the policyholder should have registered before 3-6 months depending on the plan. The premium can be paid monthly, quarterly or annually. Lots of insurance companies have sprung due to the demand for dental insurance by people who are not covered by their companies.

Help answer the question about dental insurance

How do I get my dental insurance to process/pay my claim?
I have dental insurance through WellPoint Dental Services. I needed a dental procedure and my dentist filed it and I received an approval/precertification from WellPoint in the mail. It said the insurance would pay $204 of the procedure. I had the procedure 4/25/2007. I paid my dentist in full (that's how he does it) and have been trying to collect the $204 ever since. I have called the insurance co and am always told it is in process. I have written 2 letters with a copy of the precertification to the address on my card and have had no response. On 7/18/2997, a rep said that it had been misfiled, but it would be sent to claims immediately and that all the necessary info was there. I have received no response to my letters, no check. What should I do now?? That procedure was $1000 and I could really use the $204. Thanks for any help!

Unfortunately veterans get stuck behnd the 8 ball on this one, and I am so sorry for that. The fees that the VA allows are so low that most dentists can't work with that fee schedule without losing their shirt. The whole VA Dental program s a joke. We have tried in the past to work with some of the vets in our area and the hospitals put you guys on hold forever. Not a very nice way to say thanks for your service. You should speak with your local government representative to see what can be done in your area. Best of luck and well wishes

Check in your area to see if there is a dental school in a university in your area. Temple University offers discounted dental care and the rate is based on what the student dentist charges. Check out your area it may be worth it.

You can definitely get on state assistance for medical and dental and food assistance as long as your mom doesn't claim you as a dependent anymore. You can do it temporarily until your mom starts working again, or do it long term as it would probably benefit the both of you. Go to the local health services office and ask them what's available to you, or try to find their website. It depends on the state, but they usually have applications online and a list of resources that can help. And with state assistance, you will be able to choose your own doctor and dentist and keep the problem taken care of. I had the same problem with a cavity and no insurance, but I made too much for financial aid from the state so I was stuck without insurance for 4 years and now paid 1000$ last week to repair that ONE tooth that I let get out of control. Ugh. Good luck!!!

Contact your local or state dental association and and see if there are any dentists who provide free or reduced cost care for low-income, disabled or senior patients.

Call your local health department and ask about health centers that provide dental care for free or on a sliding scale.

Your local United Way may also be aware of such a clinic. In some areas, you can reach them now by dialing 2-1-1 for "non-emergency information."

Go to a dental school, if there is one near you, for reduced costs.

Check http://www.toothwoman.net to see if low-cost or free dental services are available near you.

Check http://bphc.hrsa.gov and choose "Find a Health Center" to see if there is a low-cost clinic near you.

Check http://www.nfdh.org/DDS.html to see if your state has a "Donated Dental Services" program. D.D.S. is designed to locate dentists who will give free care to patients who are financially compromised due to medical problems. This is a process that will take a couple of months to get your information and then arrange for someone to see you. Not all states have D.D.S. programs.

I completely understand your situation. When I was in college, I maxed out my insurance and needed some more dental work done. I researched around and found this great plan: http://www.healthsavings.ourperfectcard.com I signed up online over 5 years ago now and they have saved me thousands of dollars since. From root canals, crowns, fillings, xrays…etc. All services are included in this very affordable plan. I use it when my insurance does not cover/met my deductible. They even had my benefits active in 2 hours and was able to use it the very same day. hope this helps.
