You can not control your age so you have to focus on the other elements that influence the cost of insurance

1) THe car: Get an old beater that does not require repair and only carry liability. Better still get a car that rates low on insurance costs (grandma's car vs. a rice rocket)

2) Get good grades: Good students are better drivers (statistically) so they get a better rate.

3) NO TICKETS… at your age a single ticket can be very expensive.

4) Drivers ed (?) in some states you get a discount for taking a drivers ed course… check yours

5) Check your rates each year. Dont just let your policy auto-renew, go shopping each year for a better rate.

6) Pay your bills on time. Just like credit cards, the insurance companies looks at your credit score and may factor that into the mix.

Those are the basic ones that I can think of…

Hang in there .. in about 8 years or so it will drop if you drive carefully

the way I do it is I wait till I am due for renewal then I shop around and when I find the cheapest quote I ask my insurers if they can match it, if they cannot then I do not renew and go with the new guys.
If you check out a good comparison site you get to save much time as the site will provide quotes from all main insurers.

I had the same problem. I was quite young when I passed and most companies turned me down because I was younger than 21. Others were not even worth considering because the premium came to around $1000. I was recommended Privilege from a friend, as that was the cheapest, and I have been with them since. Bear in mind that most companies take into consideration your age, no claims bonuses etc, so try a few places for quotes before you settle for one.

Get a cheap car that you can put limited collision on. Try some of the smaller underwriters as well. Cheaper insurance is still possible, but it's not going to be cheap.
